The Vice-Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Prof. Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, has challenged stakeholders of Anglican Grammar School, Ifo, to raise a N500 million infrastructure fund and transform the institution into one of the top public schools in Ogun State.
Oduwole made the call while delivering the 50th Anniversary Founders’ Day Lecture of Anglican Grammar School, Ifo, titled “Transforming Anglican Grammar School, Ifo, into a Model School in Ogun State: From Legacy to Destiny.”
The vice-chancellor said the school’s golden jubilee should mark a transition from celebrating its past achievements to deliberately building a stronger future.
“Anglican Grammar School, Ifo, must not merely preserve its legacy; it must transform that legacy into a compelling destiny,” Oduwole said.
The proposed infrastructure fund, she explained, would support the renovation of 10 classrooms, reconstruction of the science laboratory and establishment of an e-library and information and communication technology centre equipped with 50 computers and internet access.
Oduwole also called for improved academic performance, digital learning, coding and robotics programmes, entrepreneurship training, better teacher welfare, sports development and stronger partnerships among the Anglican Church, government, universities, industries, parents and alumni.
She urged old students to adopt projects and contribute according to their resources, expertise and influence. According to her, every graduating set from 1975 to 2023 should take ownership of a project in the school.
“The government will not do it for us. If we wait for Ogun State SUBEB, another 50 years will pass,” she said.
Oduwole proposed the creation of an AGS Ifo Model School Development Trust, with an independent board of trustees, audited accounts and publicly available financial reports. She also recommended a five-year master plan with measurable performance targets.
Describing a model school as more than an institution with impressive buildings, the lecturer identified academic excellence, moral and character formation, modern infrastructure, skilled teachers, and strong alumni and community partnerships as its key pillars.
She challenged the school to move from its present position to a level where it would rank among the top 10 public schools in Ogun State in WAEC results, infrastructure and discipline by its 55th anniversary.
“Let this 50th Anniversary not end with just rice, dancing and taking pictures. Let it end with a declaration,” Oduwole said.
