Ifo, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria was stormed with personalities, dignitaries around the world as Anglican Grammar School Old Students’ Association (AGSOSA), the Class of ’84, on Saturday, 21th December, 2024, celebrated 40th anniversary in grand style, with the theme: “The Class of ’84; Better With Age, Together Like Before”.
Among the dignitaries that graced the event was AGSOSA BOT Chairman, the Honorable Prince, Taiwo Oluomo, the Chairman of the Occasion, Adegboyega Adewale, AGSOSA Pioneer President, Joseph Uche, the Current National President, Deacon Atiloba Onipede, the Vice President 2, Bankole Femi, AGSOSA members, teachers, students and well wishers.
Giving his address, the set Chairman, Paul Ayokhai who called for reflection on time spent at the School celebrated the shared experiences and achievements in the last 40 years.
The chairman boldly said, “The AGSOSA ’84 Class has grown to become a union of great minds that set the tone for what has become AGSOSA today. Little wonder the set is referred to as the “PACESETTERS”.
“Going through the formative days of this union is like reminiscing through the period between 1979 and 1984. Our Journey so far between 1984 and now, many of us have traversed different cities for higher education and other vocations, and some have settled where they have profoundly found as their Rehoboth.
Speaking on the contributions to the Alma Mater, he said, “This union, as known today, has promoted and executed individual set projects, including sponsorship, as well as contributed immensely in joint projects towards the upliftment of our alma mater.
The Chairman appreciated his set for the successes, saying “in participating in all developmental initiatives are, in no small measure, made possible by your passion and dedication to give back to the institution that shaped our experiences.
While celebrating the goodness of the Almighty God for making this day a reality, the Chairman, Ayohkai called to remember the departed classmates with whom they started this race together but have heeded the home call to return to their maker.
He prayed for the departed souls to continue to rest in peace and called for unity and cooperation, saying part of the fundamental principles of life is fostering unity, love, and camaraderie while implored all to work cooperatively towards the realization of their vision as a group.
He extended his appreciation to every one for their tirelessly making this epoch event a reality, expressed gratitude to all sets that were represented to felicitate them. Says, “Cheers to AGSOSA ’84 Class and to the many more milestones to come”.
According to him, “Like fine wine, your class has grown richer with time, carrying forward the spirit of excellence and camaraderie that defined your days in school. This celebration is not just a reflection of your shared history, but a testament to the resilience, love, and unwavering commitment you have for one another.
“The friendships formed within those school walls have not only endured, they’ve evolved into a life-long network of support, laughter, and cherished memories”, the Pioneer President added.
He prayed that this bond should grow stronger. “Let your unity continue to inspire the younger generations of our alma mater, showing them the power of connection and shared values. Together, you can navigate life’s challenges with the same determination that shaped your past”, he said.
The BOT Chairman, the National President and Vice President 2 in diaspora, in goodwill messages appreciated the set for their tireless contribution to the development of the school, urged them not to relent while tasked them to foster unity among themselves and the association.
During the event, the set launched 6 million naira insurance health scheme for members to eradicate sudden deaths and illnesses. The anniversary that started with a rally on Friday ended with thanksgiving on Sunday. Planning committee included the Chairman, Paul Ayokhai, the Secretary, Solomon Olajide and other members.
