The All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from the three Southern geopolitical zones—South West, South South, and South East—under the aegis of the Southern Mandate Group, have unanimously endorsed Comrade Abdulwahab Ekekhide as the APC Southern Nigeria’s preferred candidate for the position of Vice Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the upcoming 2026 election.
According to the Convener of the Group, the endorsement is driven by the urgent need to maintain geopolitical balance and inclusive representation within the AMAC leadership structure, ensuring fairness and equity between Northern and Southern interests in the spirit of unity and national cohesion.
He stepped down for the incumbent AMAC Chairman, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu during the primary election. This singular act of political maturity and loyalty earned Ekekhide widespread respect within party ranks, further confirming his commitment to the progress and stability of the APC in AMAC.
“We believe in zoning, equity, and strategic power balancing. We also believe in competent, selfless, and loyal party men. That is why we are confident that Comrade Ekekhide is not just the Southern choice, but the right choice for the office of AMAC Vice Chairman,” the statement concluded.
The Southern Mandate Group urges the leadership of the APC at the FCT level and the National leadership to consider this endorsement in the spirit of justice, competence, and party unity as preparations begin ahead of the 2026 AMAC elections.
