The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to exert pressure on insecurity much as claimed on reaching revenue generation target for the year.
Atiku who disclosed this while reacting to the report of Tuesday’s attack on Wagga Mongono community in the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, said people are certainly tired of government’s empty claims of improvements in security.
According to him, “Our people are certainly tired of government’s empty claims of improvements in security. Indeed, Nigerians would love to see this government exert pressure on insecurity much as they do on revenue generation.
“Many Nigerians remain vulnerable to violent attacks. The tragedy in Wagga Mongono illustrates that the situation is far from being under control, and our people continue to live in fear and displacement, with no certain hope of solution at sight.
“As someone from Adamawa, this incident feels deeply personal. My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones, to those who were injured, and to the entire community forced to seek refuge in the bushes for safety.
Meanwhile, this was not the first time the community had been targeted. Barely two months ago, in July, terrorists raided the community, burning houses and forcing residents to flee to Madagali town and other neighbouring communities.
According to the UN’s International Organisation for Migration, Boko Haram has displaced over 200,000 persons in Adamawa State so far, most of them from Michika and Madagali LGAs.
