Nigerian Surveyor-General, Surv. Abuduganiyu Adebomehin has enjoined young surveyors in the country to brace up to modern realities of the profession through constant acquisition of knowledge and training.
Adebomehin who made the appeal during the Young Surveyors Network (YSN), FCT Branch excursion visit to his office on Wednesday, disclosed that the Nigerian Surveyors are creating waves abroad.
Adebomehin said to them, “We have had three, four, five of our staff that are creating waves in the United States, some in Australia..
“And one other thing I want to plead with everybody is for us to go and learn all these new technologies in surveying and how to use expert software, because when you are in the country or go abroad your client or employer already believe you have the requisite qualification to work.“
According to the statement released from the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF), the Head of Hydrography in Office of the Surveyor Generals Office, Surv Robert Coker in his own advice said, “You are supposed to think as a businessman.
“But the university, it’s not as if they elaborated on it, but you should have a business sense. The business side of Surveying is not to exposure the secret of your profession to other parties for you to be relevant, otherwise you will be under estate mated by your clients”.
Presenting the mission and objective of the visit was the Chairman YSN, FCT branch, Surv. Izuegbu Uju, who said, “the visit is about capacity building and strengthening, mentoring to become successful to boost knowledge acquisition.
“Also, the visit will help them assess the physical infrastructures of the office to build the capacity of young surveyors to prevent extinction of the profession and to also tap from the wealth of knowledge of the office”.
She also stated that the visit was necessary to get the young surveyors acquainted with the modus operandi of surveying.
An officer who was also part of the Young Surveyors Network, T.O Olabinjo said “we are looking forward to being like you in the future and we are grateful for the environment that has been provided for us”.
Presenting the vote of thanks, Surv. Angela Anyakora appreciated the Surveyor General of the Federation and his management team for sharing from their wealth of experiences with them and promised they would emulate all the good teachings.
