Eid al-Fitr: US, Canada extends wishes to Muslims around the world

The United States and Canada have extended their warmest wishes to Muslims in both countries and those around the world celebrating Eid al-Fitr to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Secretary of State, Antony Blinken said on behalf of the Department of State and the American people, he extended his warmest wishes to Muslims in the United States and those around the world celebrating Eid al-Fitr.



According to him, “On this joyous occasion, communities celebrate the deep spiritual, communal, and humanitarian benefits they may find in completing Ramadan, a month of fasting, reflection, service, and acts of charity.

“As families and communities come together to engage in prayer, share festive meals, and exchange gifts, it is an opportunity to recognize the strength and resilience found in the diversity of Muslim cultures and traditions worldwide.

“Eid al-Fitr reminds us of the importance of compassion, empathy, and unity, values that transcend faiths and nationalities.This day offers an opportunity to reflect on our shared commitment to building peaceful and prosperous communities”, he said.



Blinken urged that those who are celebrating, not forget those who are unable to do so in the safety and comfort of their homes, due to conflict, violence, persecution, or humanitarian crises. 

He added that United States remains unwavering in its commitment to promoting peace, justice, and religious freedom for all. “We wish you a blessed and joyful Eid al-Fitr.  Eid Mubarak”, the Secretary said.

Also, Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau in a statement following the Eid al-Fitr, said, “On the first sighting of the new crescent moon, Muslims in Canada and around the world will celebrate Eid al-Fitr to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.



“Eid al-Fitr, also known as the festival of breaking the fast, is one of the most important holidays in Islamic faith. It is an opportunity for families and friends to spend quality time together, worship as a community, and give to charity.

“It is also a time to show generosity, gratitude, and compassion core values that are at the heart of Islam. On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish a happy and blessed Eid al-Fitr to all those celebrating”, the Prime Minister said.

While recognized the invaluable contributions Muslim communities in Canada have made, and continue to make, to this country, Trudeau said, “Canada’s cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and sources of pride”.
