The European Union has said that nearly a hundred civilians, including women and children, reportedly killed in a new massacre in the village of Zaongo, in the North-Central region of Burkina Faso.
In a statement released by the Commission on Sunday while calling on the transitional authorities to shed light on circumstances of this killing in order to determine responsibility.
The EU reaffirmed its full solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso, the first victim of the continued deterioration of the security situation in the country.
There have been reports of several civilians being killed in the village of Zaongo, north of Boulsa, in the Centre-North region of Burkina Faso, occurred on Monday 6 November 2023, reportedly targeting women and children.
According to security sources, this was a cruel act of revenge by the terrorists against the civilians of this village following their many defeats in recent months at the hands of the defence and security forces.
Replrtt said further thag the criminals believe that it was the local people who agreed to hand over their young men and girls to the defence and security forces to fight them.
Moreover, they acted just after their defeat during operations in the Sahel, in the same region, in the Centre-North of Burkina Faso, on 6 and 7 November 2023.
