FCT Polls: Wike declares Friday work free day, restricts movement

Ahead of Saturday, FCT Area Council elections the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, has announced work free day on Friday, as well as restriction of movement from 8pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday.


In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social media Lere Olayinka, the Minister, urges residents to come out enmasse to vote for candidates of their choice.
He says, come Saturday, February 21, will be a day where crucial opportunity to shape the future of FCT will be provided where eligible voters will have the right to exercise their franchise.
He however announced that with the approval of the President Bola Tinubu, Friday, February 20, 2026 has been declared as a Work Free Day to enable movement of residents to their various communities to participate in the elections.

This is in addition to the restriction of movement within the FCT from 8pm of Friday, February 20 to 6pm of Saturday, February 21, 2026. Consequently, all security agencies are directed to ensure strict compliance with this directive.
