The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has assured Nigerians of restoration of peace and total security to every nook and cranny of the nation before the end of the year.
The Minister said this Monday in a joint World Press Conference at the National Press Centre, Abuja.
Aregbesola said the Ministry under his watch has fulfilled its mandates of maintaining internal security through it’s four agencies.
“The Ministry of Interior, through its four agencies and has contributed to economic development by facilitating the entry, operations and establishment of foreigners and foreign firms to do business in Nigeria”, the Minister said.
He added “We shall continue to work for the peace of the nation and deter elements that constitute threat to the people; we shall bear the full powers of the government to secure every inch of our land,; we shall not rest until peace is fully restored in Nigeria”.
While assuring Nigerians of their continuous safety and peaceful co-existence, the Minister reels out the achievements of the various agencies under his ministry.
In declaring the World Press conference open, Minister of Information & Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, affirmed that the terrorists are being neutralized and captured while those held hostage by the criminals are being prised out of their hands and released, in the last few months.
The Minister stated though there are pockets of attacks from criminals, but the security agencies have recorded huge success which translates to the peace recorded across the country recently.
Alhaji Mohammed wondered why any time terrorists struck, the news is all over the media but whenever troops neutralize the terrorists there is silence, hence the need for the conference.
He said the recent arrest of perpetrators of Owo Church attack and Kuje prison’s escapees attest to the fact that ‘criminal can only run but can’t hide’.
Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi said the security situation in Nigeria has been reasonably stable in spite of activities of unpatriotic elements engaged in various criminal activities around the country.
“Daily Situation Reports in the last two months have shown relative peace on many of our high ways
“It is vital to state that the near total absence of patriotism on the part of most citizens in their failure to report cases, as well as the occasional lapse in Criminal Justice System to effectively sanction offenders, contribute to the basic security challenges in Nigeria”.
The Minister that made presentation at the event was the Minister of Defence Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd).
