The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has urged Nigerians home and abroad to unite against declaration the country as ‘Country of Particular Concern’ by the United States President Donald Trump.
Making reference to statements issued by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dabiri-Erewa appealed to Nigerians in the diaspora to remain calm, united and continue to defend and project the true image of the country.
Media Bypass News earlier reports that Donald Trump blasted Nigeria, declaring the country as “Country of Particular Concern” for religious freedom violations after claiming thousands of Christians face an “existential threat” from radical Islamists.
In a fiery Truth Social post on October 31, 2025, Trump cited over 7,000 Christian deaths this year alone—averaging 35 per day—mostly in the north by groups like Boko Haram and Fulani militants, joining North Korea and Iran on the U.S. watchlist.
The move, pushed by Senator Ted Cruz, could lead to sanctions like aid cuts, but Nigeria’s govt fires back: no “Christian genocide,” just terrorism hitting Muslims and Christians alike, with over 10,000 total deaths since Tinubu’s 2023 rise.
She said that the conspiracy theory depicting Nigeria as a country killing Christians in particular, is not the true reflection of what is going on in Nigeria.
“Nigeria remains steadfast in upholding democracy, religious freedom, and protection of all citizens.
The NIDCOM Boss said that the Nigeria Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued a strong statement on this matter, and urged all Nigerians in the diaspora to speak against the untrue perception.
“The perception is definitely not true. There are issues with evil terrorists in some parts of the country, no doubt. What President Trump needs to do is to support the efforts of our government in quashing them not to falsely denigrate our country”, she added.
