The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has issued a resounding call to Nigerians living abroad: champion the nation’s successes and project a positive image to the world.
Her message, delivered during a recent visit to the United Kingdom, highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Nigerians globally, urging a shift from negative narratives to celebrating national pride.
Dabiri-Erewa lauded Councillor Christopher Adegoke, who made history as the first person from ethnic minority background to chair the Nottinghamshire County Council since its inception in 1889.
His election stands as a powerful testament to the resilience and leadership qualities inherent in the Nigerian spirit.
Similarly, the NiDCOM boss celebrated Councillor Rosaline Oguro, the newly sworn-in Mayor of Islington, who joined in urging Nigerians to remain worthy ambassadors of their heritage wherever they reside.
The celebration of excellence extended beyond the political arena into the academic sphere, where Nigerian scholars continue to dominate.
Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the extraordinary feats of two young medical professionals who have raised the bar for academic performance.
Dorcas Akanbi, a medical graduate from Rostov State Medical University in Russia, achieved an exceptional 4.90/5.00 CGPA.
In Poland, Dr. Monilola Adeshina emerged as the Valedictorian and best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice.
These achievements, according to the NiDCOM Chairman, reflect the brilliance and global competitiveness of Nigerian youth.
She reaffirmed that while every nation faces internal challenges, the deliberate celebration of success stories is vital for national morale and international standing.
Dabiri-Erewa noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is currently implementing far-reaching reforms and infrastructure projects designed to foster sustainable growth.
By contributing expertise, investment, and global networks, the diaspora remains a critical partner in Nigeria’s journey toward national prosperity.
