AGS: How I spent 4years as Head Girl – Olawoyin

Speaking of Secondary education which recorded to the phase in the education that continuum responsible for the development of the young during their adolescence, and also the most rapid phase of youth physical, mental and emotional growth.

Prompted this exclusive interview with one of the Pioneer of Anglican Grammar School AGS, Okenla, Ifo, Ogun State, Mrs Taiwo Olawoyin whose life has evolved round the school being first Head Girl of the school and the only female student who spent four consecutive years in that position.

Mrs Olawoyin while taking Media Bypass News through the memory line said, “We the first set are the pioneers of Anglican Grammar School Okenla, Ifo, we were 42 students if I could still remember, that passed out in the year 1981”.

The former head girl, a retired civil servant narrated that she got to modern school in the year 1973 and left in 1976. “But before leaving in 1976 then, the Board that governed the school decided to change the school from modern to secondary school”.

She added, “As we finished in modern school, we didn’t have any choice than to start from form one in the secondary school which made us the pioneers of the Anglican Grammar school Okenla Ifo, but later, some students joined us too”.

Mrs Olawoyin who recalled that maybe because of her activeness, punctuality, and dedication made her to retain the position of the head prefect for four consecutive years before she was replaced to take the position of an assistant Head Girl together with Social Prefect in form 5.

In her responds, “Maybe due to my activeness then, regularity, punctuality, dedicated and also aged often called Aunty Taye, smart, energetic, disciplined but averagely brilliant”, she laughed.

Speaking on discipline, she said students were already in school by 6am for morning duties. According to her, “Then there was discipline compare to now, we also had two uniforms, one is for farm, which students put on from home to school.

“By 6am we were already in school straight to our morning duties, the female students fetched water at the stream while the male would be in farm to cultivate. Late comers were given punishment to uproot palm trees, cultivated cassava, maizes and these products were sold far and near “.

Mrs Olawoyin who was known as Taiwo Adejola in school hailed the Principal for inculcating disciplines and making sure that all students participated in school activities. “We were very brilliant due to the activities of the principal. The school always comes first in all outing.

“Reverend Dickson Orhewre was in charge of the literally and debating society,” she noted that the school performance geared up some members of the society which made them to start coming up with donations, gifts for the school such as land, block of classes and other amenities.
