The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has celebrated former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on his 85th birthday, describing him as an elder statesman whose service remains an important part of Nigeria’s contemporary history.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister said Babangida’s journey through military service, national leadership and statesmanship represents a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political and institutional development.
Idris noted that, decades after leaving office, the former military president has continued to engage with issues of national importance, especially those relating to Nigeria’s unity, stability and development.
According to him, Babangida’s experiences in leadership and public service provide valuable lessons for younger generations navigating the complexities and responsibilities of nation-building.
The Minister also commended the former president’s enduring faith in Nigeria and his continued interventions in support of national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
“General Babangida remains an important voice in our national journey, and at 85, we celebrate his service, his statesmanship and his enduring commitment to a united Nigeria,” Idris said.
He wished Babangida many more years of good health, peace and fulfilment, and prayed that the former military leader would continue to enjoy the love of his family and the goodwill of Nigerians.
