For Anglican Grammar School, Oke-Nla, Ifo, Ogun State turning 50 is more than an anniversary. It is a moment to honour a heritage built on “Industry and Thoroughness” and to renew a collective commitment to the school’s future.
From September 24 to 26, the Anglican Grammar School Old Students Association (AGSOSA) will bring together alumni, students, staff, community members and distinguished guests for a three-day golden jubilee celebration.
But behind the festivities is a deeper purpose: to celebrate the people the school has shaped, give back to the community that has supported it, and raise the standard of the institution for generations to come.
For AGSOSA National President, OS Olugbenga Fashina, the milestone is a testament to faith, sacrifice and service.
“We are not just celebrating because we have nothing to do,” he says.
“We are celebrating heritage, excellence, sacrifice, service, transformation, unity and, above all, the faithfulness of God”, Fashina added.
Over five decades, Anglican Grammar School has educated young people, built character, nurtured talent and produced men and women who have made meaningful contributions to their families, professions, communities and the nation.
The jubilee is therefore both a home- coming and a declaration of renewed purpose.
A celebration that serves
The anniversary programme has been designed to reach different generations and meet different needs.
A medical outreach will give back to the host community. Academic competition will place current students at the heart of the celebration.
A novelty football match will rekindle old friendships and remind former students that their alma mater remains home.
The grand finale will provide an opportunity for reunion, reflection and conversation about the school’s continued development.
The celebration will also feature the commissioning of anniversary projects and the launch of a development fund—initiatives that reflect Fashina’s guiding slogan: “Grow the Association, develop the school.” That vision is already taking shape.
AGSOSA’s interventions include the reconstruction, plastering and painting of the school fence; wiring and ceiling-fan installation in the school hall; classroom renovations; rehabilitation of the school field; and the construction of an elibrary.
The association is also supporting students through scholarships, academic sponsorship, career talks and other development programmes. The goal, Fashina says, is to make Anglican Grammar School a flagship institution.
Stronger together
The association’s renewed direction is also reflected in its growing membership. In the past year, the number of participating alumni sets has increased from 15 to 27—a sign, he says, that confidence and commitment are returning to the association.
As the jubilee approaches, Fashina is calling on more old students to join the movement and help shape the school’s next chapter.
“This is pure service to God and humanity,” he says. “It is in it that you find fulfilment. United we stand.” Adding that the work will not end when the anniversary does.
With the Board of Trustees, National Executive, Sets Representative Assembly and general meeting all active, AGSOSA plans to sustain the momentum through regular set activities, continued projects and a data-driven development agenda.
The association’s Annual General Meeting in November will provide the next platform for turning the jubilee’s energy into action.
“As Anglican Grammar School, Oke-Nla, Ifo, marks its golden jubilee, AGSOSA is celebrating a proud legacy— and investing in the next generation”, the President declared.
Fifty years after Anglican Grammar School, Oke-Nla, Ifo, began shaping lives, its old students are returning not only to remember where they came from, but to help determine where the school is going. This is a golden jubilee of legacy, service and possibility. This is AGSOSA’s next chapter.
