The attention of NIDCOM Management has been drawn to a group that calls itself “New Nigerian Diaspora Movement” and the circulation of a video where the logo of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission was boldly used to package their activities.
According to the statement e-signed by the Commission Spokesman, Abdur-Rahman Balogun on Wednesday said the use of NIDCOM logo by the group is fraudulent, adding that this is mischievously attention seeking.
For the avoidance of doubt, NiDCOM is a government agency set up to look in to the affairs of Nigerians abroad particularly to support their goals in contributing to the development of Nigeria while they are abroad.
Our Mandate: Enacted by the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, provide for the engagement of Nigerians in Diaspora in the policies, projects.
And participation in the development of Nigeria and for the purpose of utilising the human capital and material resources of Nigerians in Diaspora towards the overall socio-economic, cultural and political development of Nigeria and for related matters.
The statement stated further that, “With the foregoing, we take a strong exception to the use of the Commission’s logo which invariably only shows that the group is desperately clout chasing.
“Let us state categorically that the group’s goals and objectives do not align with the enabling laws that established NiDCOM and as such, we request that the logo be pulled off from further use and circulation.
“The use of the Commission’s logo requires an approval, in this instance, no such thing exists. At NIDCOM, we remain committed to the goals and objectives of supporting Nigerians abroad to partner with the government of Nigeria through the use of their skills, knowledge and expertise.
“We will continue to engage with Nigerians abroad to work with Nigerians at home to build a Nigeria of our dreams as specified in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, the statement added.
