Nigeria at 64: Why tourism remains a unifying force, economic driver

As Nigeria celebrates its 64th anniversary, a renewed spotlight is being cast on tourism as a vital tool for national unity and economic growth.

The forthcoming Destination Nigeria Governors’ Tourism Conference is set to underscore the transformative potential of tourism, bringing together state leaders and key stakeholders to explore opportunities for tourism-driven development.

In an exclusive interview, Ambassador Ayo Omotoso, the visionary behind the conference, emphasized that Nigeria’s rich diversity of cultures, languages, and traditions positions tourism as a powerful bridge across regional divides.
“When you consider Nigeria’s various backgrounds, tribes, and tongues, the one factor that consistently unites us is tourism,” Ambassador Omotoso noted.

“By drawing inspiration from African nations like Kenya and South Africa, which have successfully harnessed the power of tourism for national development, Nigerian governors will explore best practices and investment opportunities to further the country’s tourism agenda.
