The Federal Government of Nigeria expresses deep concern over reports of an Israeli airstrike on 9 September 2025 in Doha, Qatar, reportedly targeting senior members of the Hamas leadership.
According to the statement released by the foreign affairs stating that the country underscores the primacy of respecting the sovereignty of all nations while adhering to international law, particularly in matters involving the use of force across borders.
Nigeria acknowledged Qatar’s longstanding role in fostering dialogue and mediation in the region. “In this context, Nigeria urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid escalation and recommit to peaceful engagement.
The Federal Government remains steadfast in its commitment to working alongside members of the international community within the framework of the United Nations and other multilateral fora to advance peace, security, and the rule of law in the Middle East and beyond.
It further said this action drew sharp Qatari and international condemnation, complicating ceasefire diplomacy, while this is Israel’s first known strike in Qatar, signaling willingness to target Hamas across allied territory.
The result disrupted but did not decapitate Hamas’ leadership, Doha’s mediator role, U.S.–Israel–Qatar ties, and Gulf stability face strain; Hamas is expected to disperse and tighten security abroad, according to report.
