Nigerian first lady, Oluremi Tinubu who played host to the D’tigress at the State House, Abuja on Monday, saluted their performance on the basketball court that led to their victory at the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afro Basket Tournament just concluded in Rwanda.
According to Oluremi Tinubu’s aide, Busola Kukoyi who made this known on her social media platforms, while the first lady said D’Tigress’ performance is a testament to hard work, discipline, and commitment to excellence, saying this will inspire countless individuals especially women, to pursue their dreams.
Recall that the defending champions Nigeria’s D’Tigress on Saturday 5th August, defeated their Senegalese counterparts 84 – 74 in the final of the championship to win their fourth straight title.
The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had saluted the Female National Basketball Team over the win, adding that the success of the team is a clear evidence of dedication, commitment and team spirit.
She noted that the victory of the D’tigress is evidence of success in the horizon for Nigeria in every aspect especially as the Super Falcons will be taking on England on Monday in the round of 16 stage of the ongoing FIFA Women World Cup.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu seized the opportunity to wish the Super Falcons victory in the match. “This is the 4th consecutive victory of the D’tigress National Basketball team at the FIBA Afro Basket Tournament”, she said.
The D’Tigress ended the drought as they were crowned champions in 2017. The team then followed up with victories in 2019, 2021 and now 2023 in amazing fashion. D’Tigress becomes only the second team ever, after Senegal to win four consecutive titles at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Competition.
