NYSC gives update on Zamfara abduction, Batch ”B” Registration

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has given update on the remaining two Corps Members kidnapped in Zamfara, August 2023.

According to the statement released by the Scheme on Tuesday, stating that a combined effort of security agencies led by Officers and men of 2 Battalion under I Division of Nigeria Army, Kaduna has rescued one of the Corps member.

With this, a total of seven out of the eight Corps Members have been rescued, while efforts are still on-going to secure the safe release of the remaining male Prospective Corps Member who is still in custody of the kidnappers.

Speaking on the rescue, the Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed appreciated the gallant efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their dedication.

And their commitment towards the rescue of the Prospective Corps Members, the NYSC DG expressed optimism that the remaining Prospective Corps Member will also be rescued very soon.
Similarly, the Director General advised all Prospective and serving Corps Members to avoid night journeys and always be security conscious at all times.

Also, in a separate statement, the Scheme has responded to a release purportedly issued by the National Youth Service Corps, conveying plan to extend the registration date in respect of 2024 Batch “B” Orientation programme.

While stated that the said release, signed by one Samad Abdullahi, and unsuspectingly quoted by some bloggers as originating from the Scheme is fake and did not originate from the NYSC management.
NYSC explained that the registration portal experienced a glitch on Saturday 8th June, 2024 and Prospective Corps Members were immediately notified of the problem in the portal.

The Scheme added that when the issue was rectified, registration by Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) continued on the same day.

“Upon reaching the maximum number of PCMs required for the incoming batch in line with the carrying capacities of the 37 NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide, the portal was shutdown accordingly”, the Scheme said.

While apologising to the PCMs who could not register for Service before registration was discontinued, NYSC assured Corps members that the portal will reopen for 2024 Batch “B” Stream II on a date that will be announced later.

Criminally-minded individuals who have the penchant of issuing fake press releases on NYSC operations are warned to desist forthwith, as anyone caught will be handed over to the Law enforcement agents for prosecution.

“Online reporters and bloggers are please expected to confirm the authenticity of issues with NYSC before publishing”, the NYSC Management said.
