Ooni extols NYSC’s unquantifiable contribution to unity, nation building

The Paramount Ruler of Yorubaland, the Ooni of Ife, His Emperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has commended NYSC for unquantifiable contributions to the unity, integration and development of all facets of Nigeria’s economy from its inception in 1973 to date.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja on Friday, the revered monarch, who was represented by his wife, Her Regal Majesty Olori Temitope Enitan Ogunwusi.

 


According to Ooni, “NYSC is the beacon of hope for this nation. One cannot but praise the noble scheme, taking into cognizance the role it has played especially in unifying the country through promotion of inter-tribal, inter-cultural and inter-regional marriages among Nigerian youths.”

He further applauded the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed for his humility in relating with stakeholders, which has attracted more grace to the organization since he assumed office in January this year.



Earlier in his welcome remark, the NYSC Director General appreciated the monarch for creating time out of his busy schedules to pay a courtesy visit on Yakubu Gowon House as contained in statement released by the Scheme.

Brigadier General Ahmed said the Ooni of Ife is a detribalized Nigerian, who preaches national unity at every given forum.

He also described the royal father is an embodiment of generosity and hospitality, as exemplified by the warm reception he accords Corps members any time they visit his palace at Ile-Ife, Osun state.



Shortly after the courtesy visit, the representative of the Ooni of Ife was at the studio of NYSC Radio and Television, where she fielded questions from presenters.

During the session, Her Regal Majesty urged serving and prospective Corps members to emulate their predecessors by being patriotic and dedicated to duty wherever they find themselves.

She equally visited NYSC Museum of Dynamic History where she expressed delight over the artefacts on display and called on other agencies of government to take a queue so as to preserve their history for upcoming generations.
