In a remarkable display of technical prowess, commitment to uninterrupted power supply, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kaduna, has completed critical live-line maintenance on the Zaria – Funtua 132kV Transmission Line.
This intricate operation, executed without a single power outage, underscores TCN’s dedication to maintaining a robust and reliable national grid.
The maintenance exercise, carried out by TCN’s specialized Live-Line Crew from Saturday, July 4, to Tuesday, July 7, 2026, addressed the urgent need to replace damaged glass disc insulators across several transmission towers.
Specifically, towers T14, T17, T40, T63, T78, T175, T177, and T178 each presented with at least five compromised insulators.
The crew meticulously replaced these with a combination of polymer and glass disc insulators, effectively restoring the structural integrity and insulation reliability of the transmission line.
Traditionally, such extensive repairs would necessitate a planned outage, disrupting electricity supply to consumers and impacting economic activities.
However, TCN’s adoption of modern live-line maintenance techniques allowed the work to proceed under energized conditions.
This innovative approach eliminated the need for power disruption, ensuring that bulk electricity transmission continued seamlessly throughout the four-day operation.
The successful completion of this complex task not only highlights the advanced capabilities of TCN’s Live-Line Crew but also reinforces the company’s strategic focus on deploying cutting-edge methods to enhance grid stability and efficiency.
By minimizing service interruptions, TCN continues to play a pivotal role in supporting Nigeria’s energy sector and fostering economic growth.
