Promote rich values, Dabiri-Erewa to Nigerians in Diaspora

The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has urged Nigerians abroad to promote the rich Nigerian values of hardwork, resilience and excellence that resonate within Nigerian people.

Dabiri-Erewa made the call during a book launch by a Nigerian-UK based author and Property magnet, Mr Yemi Edun, titled: “The Number One Mission”, Nigeria High mission in United Kingdom on the Thursday.

She also reiterated that a successfully developed Nigeria needs the strong and dynamic collaboration of its government, as well as, Nigerians, home and in the Diaspora.

NIDCOM Boss said, “Nigeria is judged through actions of Nigerians living in host countries abroad, which is why FG, through the Commission, mandates Diasporas to be good Ambassadors of the country; excel in whatever field of endeavour and always remember home, and giving back to their country, Nigeria”.

According to the statement released by the Commission, Dabiri-Erewa commended Mr. Yemi Edun for contributing his quota to knowledge and the history of Nigeria’s Number One Diplomacy.

In the same vein, Sen. Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, commended the author, that the book will boost the body of knowledge, and display how some prominent Nigerians made their mark for Nigeria in Diplomacy and International Relations.

Also, Amb. Christopher Kolade, a former Nigeria High Commissioner to the UK, stated that the UK is Nigeria’s first interaction with foreign countries.

He said that the Nigerians in the UK and beyond, should realise that they embody the Nigerian identity. According to him, they should work with dignity and excellence to create a positive perception.

Sen. Yusuf Baba Datti-Ahmed, businessman and politician, in his goodwill remarks said that the writer has created a piece that reveals Nigeria-UK relations through the Nigerian mission in the UK. He applauded the writer and encouraged the publication to be a book for reference towards national development.

The author, Yemi Edun said curiosity led him to write a story about the history and lifestyle of Nigerians living in the UK, including the consulate.

Mr. Edun noted that in the course of the research of his book, he came across interesting stories to celebrate Nigeria. He asserted that more of such histories should be published to applaud the country.

He stated that as a way of giving back to the community, proceeds form the Book will be channelled toward charity and empowerment of the indegent.

Mr Yemi Edun is a Nigerian Diaspora based in the UK for over 30 years. He is the CEO of Daniel Ford International. He is s property and acquisition expert.

Asides real estate, Mr. Edun is into Finance, Philanthropy and Social Impact. He was listed in the 2021 Most Influential Black People in the UK.

This is the third edition of the launch; previous ones were held in London and Lagos.
