Robbery attack: Ogun won’t condone any criminality, Abiodun says

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has reiterated that no level of criminality will be condoned in the State over the robbery attack which led to death of a trader in Abeokuta, the State capital on Thursday.

Abiodun who disclosed this on Thursday when he got the report of the unfortunate incident, assuring that his administration has put in place, people, processes, mobility equipment and the technology to deter all criminal activities and to apprehend faulting persons or groups.

On his social media platform, the Governor said, “The unfortunate incident that occurred on the 12th of April, orchestrated by armed robbers that led to the gruesome murder of one of the traders at a popular phone market known as “Tarmac” at the Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta.



“Which was reported to me and my heart goes out to the family of the deceased trader and all the traders who lost valuables. May God give everyone the grace to bear the loss of life and property, Ogun Governor added.

He commended the efforts of the anti-robbery and surveillance teams, Amotekun Corps and the traders who took immediate action, efforts of which yielded in the capturing of one of the hoodlums and also brought a semblance of peace to the vicinity.

The Governor sympathised with all affected traders and their families while he once again urged the good people to resume their usual activities.



It was reported that a trader, identified as Dayo Bankole, was shot dead, while several others were injured during the robbery attack at a popular phone market, otherwise known as “computer village” in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

According to the report which stated that the incident caused panic in the area as people scampered to safety to avoid being shot. However, the traders later summoned the courage to go after their attackers and got one of them arrested.

Also, the report stated further that armed policemen repelled an attacks by eight member robbery gang on a major phone market at Oke Ilewo/Ibara axis of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.



While one of the robbers, Adeniyi Shakiru, was arrested during the exchange of gunfire between the gang and security operatives, including policemen and Amotekun personnel.

Spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the robbers on invading the phone marker fired gunshots sporadically, while carting away expensive phones.

A police team from Ibara police station, led by its divisional police officer, Abayomi Adeniji, joined by Amotekun operatives rushed to the market, and engaged the robbers in a shoot out.
