Saudi fund scholarships to 50 Nigerian students, FG hails

In a significant move poised to bolster Nigeria’s human capital development, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has extended fully funded scholarships to 50 Nigerian students for studies in petroleum and mineral resources.

This initiative, lauded by the Federal Government of Nigeria, underscores the deepening bilateral ties between the
two nations.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation,
expressed Nigeria’s profound gratitude during a courtesy visit from Yousef Bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, on Monday.

Minister Idris highlighted the strategic importance of the scholarship program, emphasizing its alignment with the FG’s commitment to strengthening critical economic sectors through capacity building.
“This is not just a scholarship programme; it is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future, particularly in key sectors such as petroleum and solid minerals that are central to our economic growth and diversification,” Idris stated.

In a statement released by his aide, the Minister further noted the program’s
annual continuity, which promises a steady influx of skilled professionals into Nigeria’s vital industries.

Ambassador Al-Balawi, conveying the Saudi leadership’s appreciation for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s solidarity, affirmed the strength of the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.
He detailed that the scholarships, offered via the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, encompass tuition, travel, accommodation, and monthly stipends,
representing a tangible investment in Nigerian youth.

Beyond the educational initiative, both nations are actively pursuing expanded economic cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, recognizing their roles as key regional economic powers with vast potential for partnership.

The Minister also took the opportunity to convey Nigeria’s solidarity with the Saudi Arabia amidst the Middle East tensions,
expressing hopes for peace and stability in the Gulf region.
