The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced planned power interruptions in parts of Kogi, Edo and Niger states as it carries out annual preventive maintenance on key transmission substations.
The maintenance at the 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation was scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the exercise, TCN engineers will service a 162MVA power transformer, associated switchgear and other ancillary equipment.
The planned outage is expected to affect customers supplied by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba and surrounding communities.
Customers served by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will also be affected in Okpella Town, BUA Cement Company, West African Fertilizer Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company, Freedom Group Company, Ososo, Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara and Oka.
In a separate notice, TCN announced maintenance at the 132/33kV Bida Transmission Substation on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The exercise will involve preventive maintenance on a 60MVA transformer and related switchgear.
As a result, AEDC customers in Bida Town, Army Barracks, Agaie, Doko, Baro, Zago, Emi Rani, Bussu, Laugba Goshigi, Lafiyagi Essa, Amgulu, Mansantali, Agaie Town, Low Cost, Masaga, neighbouring villages may experience power outages.
TCN said electricity supply would be restored to all affected areas immediately after the maintenance work is completed. The company apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to residents and businesses to cooperate with the exercise.
