The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the rehabilitation of four transmission towers vandalized along the Afam-IPP–Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line.
The affected towers—T50 to T53—were discovered damaged on August 6, 2026, by TCN lines engineers from the Port Harcourt Region.
The attackers had removed and carted away critical tower members, leaving the infrastructure vulnerable and posing a threat to the stability of electricity supply.
The incident marks the fifth vandalism attack recorded on the line in recent times, highlighting the growing danger posed by infrastructure theft to Nigeria’s national grid.
As rehabilitation efforts continue, TCN is calling on host communities, security agencies, stakeholders and the general public to join forces in protecting transmission infrastructure and curbing the menace of vandalism.
