Umahi takes charge, spearheads logistics for APC 2026 National Convention

With the All Progressive Congress (APC) Party 2026 National Convention on the horizon, the crucial Accommodation and Transportation Committee has officially commenced its operations, signaling a robust commitment to ensuring a seamless and successful event.

Chaired by the Minister of Works, Senator (Engr) David Umahi, the committee held its inaugural meeting at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on Tuesday, bringing together a formidable team of Governors, Ministers, Senators, and senior party leaders.

In his opening remarks, Senator Umahi underscored the paramount importance of efficient logistical arrangements for any large-scale national gathering.


“The success of any large national gathering such as our National Convention depends not only on the political processes that take place, but also on the efficiency of the logistical arrangements that support it,” he stated.

He emphasized that the smooth arrival and accommodation of delegates, leaders, and special guests, along with coordinated transportation, are non- negotiable for a disruption-free convention.

The committee’s mandate is extensive, focusing on meticulous planning, strong
coordination, and professional execution. Its responsibilities, as outlined in the Terms of Reference, include:
• Accommodation Planning and Coordination: Identifying, securing, and coordinating suitable accommodation for all participants, ensuring adequate capacity, appropriate standards, and proximity to the convention venue.

• Hotel Engagement and Room Allocation: Negotiating block bookings with hotels and developing comprehensive room allocation frameworks for various categories of
participants, including VIPs, delegates, and officials.

• Transportation Logistics and Movement Planning: Orchestrating transportation
needs, from airport pick-ups and drop- offs to shuttle services between hotels and the convention venue, and other essential mobility arrangements.
• Fleet Management and Vehicle Deployment: Mobilizing and managing the necessary vehicle fleet for VIPs, shuttle services, logistics, and operational support.

• Coordination of Arrival and Departure Logistics: Establishing streamlined systems for the orderly reception, transportation, and departure of all attendees.

• VIP and Special Guest Logistics Support: Providing tailored accommodation and transportation arrangements for high-level dignitaries and party leaders.
• Operational Coordination with Other Committees: Collaborating closely with other convention committees, such as venue management, accreditation, protocol, and security, to ensure integrated logistics operations.

• Establishment of a Logistics Coordination System: Implementing robust coordination mechanisms, including help desks, dispatch systems, and communication channels, to manage all accommodation and transportation issues.

• Monitoring and Operational Support During the Convention: Overseeing the realtime implementation of arrangements, addressing challenges promptly, and providing continuous logistics support throughout the convention period.
The Minister stressed the urgency of early planning to secure hotel capacities and transportation resources while expressed strong confidence in the committee’s collective experience, commitment, and leadership.

He affirmed that their collaborative efforts would ensure the APC 2026 National Convention is conducted in an organized, efficient, and ultimately successful manner.

The meeting concluded with an invitation to the Committee Secretary to guide members through the day’s agenda, setting the stage for the critical
work ahead.
