US provides $24bn worth of military aid to Ukraine in 2023

The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thanked United States President, Joe Biden, the Congress and the American people for the support of the $250 million military aid package announced on Wednesday to defend the country against Russian aggression.

Zelenskyy who on his social media platform made the appreciation on Thursday said, this additional air defense missiles, components, anti-tank weapons, ammunition, mine clearing, and other equipment will cover Ukraine’s most pressing needs.

He stated further that United States leadership with the coalition of over 50 countries providing Ukraine with military aid is critical to countering terror and aggression not only in Ukraine but around the world.

The President revealed that over the course of this year, the United States has provided 34 military aid packages worth over $24 billion, mentioning “Patriots,” “Abrams,” armored vehicles, ATACMS, DPICM, air defense, missiles.

“Also, are artillery rounds, mine clearing capabilities, and other critical equipment. A historic decision to provide Ukraine with F-16 jets was made. We will always be grateful for all of this support”, he appreciated.

The President noted that to defend the freedom and security not only in Ukraine, European countries but also in the United States, the world must continue to respond to ongoing Russian aggression in the most forceful and resolute manner possible.

Meanwhile, United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken in a statement released on Wednesday confirmed the US’s announcement of this year’s final package of weapons and equipment for Ukraine.

According to him, “Our assistance has been critical to supporting our Ukrainian partners as they defend their country and freedom against Russia’s aggression. This package provides up to $250 million of arms and equipment under previously directed drawdowns for Ukraine”.

He added that the capabilities provided on Wednesday’s package include air defense munitions, air defense system components, additional ammunition for high mobility artillery rocket systems, 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, anti-armor munitions, and over 15 million rounds of ammunition.

Blinken disclosed that coalition of more than 50 countries continues to provide critical support for Ukraine’s forces, adding that it’s imperative that Congress act swiftly, as soon as possible, to advance US national security interests by helping Ukraine defend itself and secure its future.
