The Federal Ministry of Works has begun a new chapter following the retirement of its Permanent Secretary, Engr. Rafiu Olarinre Adeladan, whose years of service were marked by professionalism, accessibility and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s civil service.
At a handover ceremony held on Thursday, 27 August 2026, Adeladan formally transferred the administration of the Ministry to Alhaji Aminu Ahmed, Director of Finance and Accounts, who assumed the role of Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary pending the appointment of a substantive successor.
In an emotional farewell address, Adeladan thanked the Ministry’s management and staff for their cooperation, friendship and support throughout his tenure.
He praised their professionalism, teamwork and willingness to speak candidly while remaining committed to doing what is right.
Reflecting on his time in office, the retiring Permanent Secretary said he was leaving with deep emotion but immense gratitude.
He described his relationship with colleagues as one built not only on official responsibilities, but also on partnership, mutual respect and shared purpose. While apologised to anyone he may have offended and asked for their forgiveness.
Adeladan urged staff to preserve the Ministry’s spirit of teamwork, dedication and service to the nation.
He assured them that retirement would not end his relationship with the institution, promising to remain a friend and steadfast supporter.
Accepting responsibility for the transition, Aminu paid tribute to Adeladan’s leadership and mentorship, describing him as a brother, friend and guide whose influence had shaped both the Ministry and the careers of many officers.
He pledged to work closely with management and staff to ensure continuity and effective delivery of the Ministry’s mandate.
Directors and staff who spoke at the ceremony remembered Adeladan as a disciplined, principled and compassionate leader who guided colleagues patiently, remained accessible and addressed difficult issues with courage and professionalism.
As the ceremony ended with prayers and goodwill messages, the Ministry bade farewell to a respected public servant—and welcomed an interim steward committed to carrying the work forward.
