World leaders hails Turkish President, Erdoğan’s re-election win

World leaders have celebrated with the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for winning Sunday’s Presidential runoff, triumphing over a united opposition and claiming another five-year term.

Erdoğan led challenger Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu 52% to 48% with 99% of ballots counted, while the Supreme Election Council confirmed victory, saying the votes that still needed to be counted would not change the outcome of the election.

United States President, Joe Biden reacting to this victory on Twitter congratulated President Erdogan on his re-election, looking forward to continuing to work together as NATO Allies on bilateral issues and shared global challenges.



Also, United Nations Secretary- General, Antonio Guterres in a statement by the Spokesperson, congratulated Erdoğan of Turkey on his reelection. The UN Chief looks forward to strengthening the cooperation between Türkiye and the United Nations.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau on Sunday issued the following statement on the result of the presidential election in Türkiye:

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on his re-election.

“The ties between Canada and Türkiye run deep, with a vibrant diaspora of over 65,000 Turkish-Canadians tightly woven into our national fabric.



“Our countries are strong bilateral partners and are united by our shared commitment to upholding fundamental principles of peace, security, and collective defence internationally.

“I look forward to continuing to work with President Erdoğan to strengthen our countries’ ties as long-standing NATO Allies and make progress on shared priorities.

“Canada also remains committed to supporting Türkiye as it rebuilds after the devastating earthquake in the region earlier this year.

“Together, Canada and Türkiye will continue to work to build a more prosperous future for people in both countries and around the world”.



British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak on tweets, “Congratulations to President Erdogan. I look forward to continuing the strong collaboration between our countries, from growing trade to tackling security threats as NATO allies”.

The head of Turkey’s election commission on Sunday declared the President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan the winner of a historic runoff vote that will extend his 20-year rule until 2028 according to report.

Opposition leader Kilicdaroglu expressed “real sadness” about Turkey’s future in a speech after Erdogan declared victory. Without conceding defeat, he said he would continue to lead the opposition.

Other World leaders including French President  Emmanuel Macron, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have also congratulated Erdogan on his election victory.
