The Chairman and Convener, Progressives Solidary for Asiwaju (PSA), Dr. Ibrahim Emokpare, has urged the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) to work toward accommodating women in executive positions in 2023.
Emokpare, who is also a chieftain of the APC made the appeal on Thursday in Abuja at a Summit to unveil the PSA Campaign Council and Co-ordinators organised by the women wing.
The Summit with the theme: Dissecting Asiwaju Agricultural Policies for Women was attended by members of the PSA from across the country.
Emokpare said the theme was very apt considering the fact that agriculture had contributed up to 40 per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with women providing close to 80 per cent of the labour.
He said that going by statistics, women were practically feeding the country, adding that there must be a concerted effort to grant them a projected role in the next dispensation.
This, he said, was especially in the aspect of commodity boards and farm cooperatives.
“If women are in charge of commodity boards and farm cooperatives, it is believed that there would be a lot of compassion in the handling of food pricing.
“Although the Renewed Hope 2023 Manifesto of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate captured these two important aspects of agriculture.
“Efforts should be made to produce an empirically backed policy to robustly accommodate women into executive positions come 2023,” Emokpare said.
He congratulated members of the PSA campaign council, saying they should see their appointment as microcosm of a national appointment.
He said working for the actualisation of a Tinubu presidency in 2023 was nothing short of a patriotic call for all right thinking Nigerian, adding that better days was ahead.
Speaking at the event, Hafsat Funke Mohammed, PSA Chairperson, thanked God for the occasion and charged Nigerian women to brace up for the task ahead.
“We are here to review the role of women in agriculture in this train the trainer submit, there is need for women to continue to appreciate and uphold themselves.
“Let’s keep our differences behind and be focused and victory will be sure for us,” she said.
