The National Executive Council (NEC) of Nigeria Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE) has on Saturday suspended the National President of the association, Comrade Simon Anchave.
The NEC during her national convention took the decision in accordance with the laws binding the union.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after the conference, the Deputy National President of NUAAE, Comrade A. A Kisoro said “I was the one who presided over this NEC meeting in the absence of the President by the power bestowed on me.
“You can see what happened, in the morning we had our own Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting and during that meeting we made submission which was supposed to be presented at the NEC and when we came out the President, Comrade Anchave said we’re having the NEC meeting today by 12pm but to my surprised I met some of my colleagues outside who told me that they’ve conducted the NEC meeting without our participation noting that majority of the Chairmen who formed the NEC members were outside.
“This is one of the dubious character of comrade Anchave causing certain irregularities in the union and we have been exercising patients but it has reached a stage where we have to protest against him.
“So majority of the Chairmen gathered and advised me to conduct the NEC meeting because Comrade Anchave just left the office premise with his few team without telling anybody where he was going to and the Union constitution permits me to act as the president.
The Deputy National President lamented that it was Comrade Anchave that called for the NEC meeting that had participants from all the States but he just left for his personal reasons without informing them that was why he ( Cmr. Kisoro ) presided over the meeting.
He said “the suspension of the President by the NEC remains valid as we are having the majority members present at the meeting.
“Although, our tenure will be ending by January 16th, 2024 but he (Cmr. Anchave) doesn’t want to leave the power as he wanted a tenure elongation which is not acceptable.
“Technically, we sat and had our meeting and because of Cmr. Anchave behavior and past leadership records the NEC have decided to suspend him.
Comrade kisoro stressed that part of the resolutions is to constitute a transition committee with two representatives from each of the six geopolitical zones.
He said “these Representatives will handle the affairs of the union in the next six months which a proper election will be conducted to usher in the new executives of the union.
Several attempts on telephone calls to get Comrade Anchave’s reaction to the suspension proved abortive as he wasn’t picking calls at the time of this report.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity had delegated two staff who witnessed the conduct of the NEC meeting.
