The Managing Director of Travelogue Communication, Amb. Ayo Omotosho, also a tourism expert has commended the telecom giant the MTN for recognizing the important role technology plays in connecting people and promoting peace.
Omotosho made the commendation during a paper presentation at the MTN product launch on World Tourism Day, September 27, 2024 under the theme “Tourism and Peace”, with the launch of this unique product “See Naija, Explore the Beauty in Diversity”.
He said through seamless communication, digital platforms, and innovative products like the one launched today, MTN is ensuring that Nigerians, and indeed the world, have
access to real-time information about the tourism destinations.
Omotoso added that this new product, designed to empower tourists visiting Nigeria, both domestic and international, with information and connection, enables visitors to navigate the country’s landscapes, share their experiences, and, most importantly, stay connected.
He said, “In a world where distance is no longer a barrier, MTN is helping make tourism in Nigeria more accessible, safe, and enjoyable. By doing so, the telecom giant is promoting the kind of peace that stems from understanding and connection, both virtually and physically”.
Speaking on this year theme for the World Tourism Day which he said resonates deeply not just with the global community but also with Nigeria, as a nation blessed with unparalleled beauty, rich cultures, and diverse landscapes that have the power to unite and foster peace.
According to him, “As we gather to launch this exciting new product, product “See Naija, Explore the Beauty in Diversity”from Nigeria’s leading Telecom Brand, MTN, it’s important to reflect on how tourism, intertwined with technology, can be a force for unity and
progress in Nigeria.
“Today, I want to draw attention to the profound link between tourism and peace and how, through innovation, we can harness this connection to see Naija in all its glory. These experiences foster empathy and build bridges of understanding that transcend borders, languages, and beliefs”, he added.
Amb. Omotosho noted that tourism as a catalyst for Peace, promotes understanding, tolerance, and dialogue among people from different walks of life. “When people travel, they experience new cultures, encounter unfamiliar traditions, and learn to appreciate the uniqueness of others”.
Citing Nigeria as a prime example of a nation with a rich diversity of ethnicities, languages, and traditions, the tourism expert said with over 250 ethnic groups and hundreds of languages, the country stands as a testament to the beauty of diversity.
“This diversity is our strength, and through tourism, we can showcase it to the world, promoting our culture and the peace that comes from shared experiences and mutual respect.
“See Naija, Explore the Beauty in Diversity From the rolling hills of Obudu to the sandy shores of Lagos, from the ancient city of Kano and Benin to the vibrant cultural festivals of Calabar, Nigeria offers many destinations and experiences.
“These locations are not just spots on the map—they are gateways to understanding, unity, and peace. Each state, each city, and each village holds a story, a tradition, and a way of life that adds to the rich tapestry of
our nation”.
He emphasized that the beauty of Nigeria lies not just in its physical landscapes but in its people, adding that the warmth, hospitality, and resilience of Nigerians make every traveller feel welcome and part of something greater.
“As we explore the diverse offerings of our country, we also explore the possibilities of what peace can look like when we come together as one people with one purpose”, Ambassador Omotosho stated.
While calling to action, he asked stakeholders to commit themselves to promoting peace through tourism and seeing Nigeria via fresh eyes, acknowledging the beauty that lies in the diversity and the potential to foster peace through shared experiences.
Amb Omotosho enjoined MTN to invite the world to explore the rich cultural heritage, natural wonders, and diverse traditions that make Nigeria unique.
He said, “Together with partners like MTN, we can elevate tourism in Nigeria, ensuring that it not only contributes to our economy but also strengthens the bonds of peace within our borders and beyond”.
