The federal government has inaugurated a ministerial committee to assess, complete, and allocate a 753-unit housing estate recently recovered and handed over by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a move authorities say aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Located in the Cadastral Zone of the Federal Capital Territory, the estate is being repurposed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development as affordable housing for Nigerians.

Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, described the committee’s assignment as a mission to deliver hope, value and homes.

He said, “This estate was once a symbol of public sector inefficiency and abuse. Thanks to the EFCC’s recovery efforts, it now represents an opportunity for renewal and impact. This committee must transform it into liveable, secure, and affordable homes,” he stated.

Dangiwa said the committee would be chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, and comprises top management and technical experts drawn from key departments.

He outlined a comprehensive list of responsibilities for the committee, including structural integrity tests, unit status verification, valuation of completed works, and assessment of the cost to complete infrastructure such as roads, power, water, and security.

The committee is also expected to develop standardized design guides, propose a transparent allocation strategy via the Renewed Hope Housing Portal, and coordinate with stakeholders, including EFCC, the FCT Administration, and utility providers.

“I charge you all to approach this assignment with urgency, dedication, and integrity. Work as a team. Eliminate bureaucracy. Think outside the box. Be result-oriented. And let us deliver a completed housing estate that meets the expectations of our people and the standards of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, emphasised the strategic importance of the project, calling it a model for converting recovered public assets into impactful infrastructure.

“This assignment must be handled with the seriousness it deserves. The successful delivery of this project will not only provide housing but will also demonstrate government’s resolve to turn public resources into visible benefits for citizens,” he concluded.
