…. Challenges Northern lawmakers

The Arewa Revival Project (ARP) has commended Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, for his outstanding leadership, commitment to transparency, and unwavering dedication to the people of his constituency, especially in Ohafia Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Hon. Muttaka Ahmed Ibrahim, Project Coordinator of ARP, the organization hailed Senator Kalu’s recent decision to release a comprehensive, independently verified report on his constituency projects ahead of the National Assembly’s September resumption.
“This is the kind of leadership Nigerians deserve—rooted in transparency, accountability, and a genuine connection with the people,” the statement read.
The ARP highlighted Senator Kalu’s appreciation of traditional rulers and stakeholders in Ohafia, his clarification of earlier incomplete project reports, and his demonstrated commitment to equitable development across his senatorial district as signs of responsible and exemplary representation.
In recognition of his efforts, Hon. Muttaka announced that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has been awarded the ‘Pillar of the Community Award for Excellence in Leadership’ by the Arewa Revival Project.
“This award symbolizes our appreciation for a leader who not only speaks of service but proves it through action and accountability,” he added.
ARP also issued a challenge to Northern lawmakers—particularly those who have served multiple terms without transparent impact records—to take a cue from Senator Kalu’s example.
“The people deserve to know what is being done in their name and with their mandate. Northern Senators must break free from the culture of silence and embrace a new era of openness,” the group emphasized.
The organization further revealed its plan to launch a Regional Scorecard Initiative in the coming months, which will assess and publicly report on the performance of Northern legislators based on their constituency projects, legislative effectiveness, and community engagement.
“Senator Kalu’s approach is more than commendable—it’s a clear message to all public officials: step up or step aside,” Hon. Muttaka declared.
The Arewa Revival Project reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible governance, youth empowerment, and the socio-economic advancement of Northern Nigeria through active civic participation and strategic advocacy.
