The members of the G7 has warned Iranian authority that it prepare to impose more restrictive measures if crack down on protests and dissent in violation of international human rights obligations continues.

This was disclosed on Wednesday in a joint statement of G7 Foreign Ministers which includes that of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and the United States of America with the European Union High Representative.

The protests which began on December 28 in response to soaring prices, before turning against the clerical rulers who have governed since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The Iranian authorities has accused the U.S. and Israel of fomenting trouble and called for a nationwide rally on Monday to condemn “terrorist actions led by the United States and Israel,” state media reported.
Hospitals are reportedly overwhelmed, with medical staff describing the chaotic conditions and severe shortages. In one account shared with foreign media, a doctor said hundreds were killed in a single night, while morgues were filled beyond capacity.

The G7 said it gravely concerned by the developments surrounding the ongoing protests in Iran while strongly opposing the intensification of Iranian authorities’ brutal repression of its people, who have bravely voiced legitimate aspirations for a better life, dignity and freedom, since the end of December 2025.
According to them, “We are deeply alarmed at the high level of reported deaths and injuries. We condemn the deliberate use of violence and the killing of protestors, arbitrary detention, and intimidation tactics by security forces against demonstrators”.

The G7 urged the Iranian authorities to exercise full restraint, to refrain from violence, and to uphold the human rights, the fundamental freedoms of its citizens, which includes the rights to freedom of expression, to seek, receive and impart information, and freedom of association and peaceful assembly, without fear of reprisal.

It concluded, “The members of the G7 remain prepared to impose additional restrictive measures if Iran continues to crack down on protests and dissent in violation of international human rights obligations”.
