Minister flags-off over N200m Ramadan palliatives in Sokoto

In the spirit of compassion, solidarity, and responsible leadership, on Monday, 16th February 2026, the Minister of State for Works, Rt. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has officially flagged off the distribution of cash and food items worth over Two Hundred Million Naira to the people of Goronyo Local Government Area.

According to the statement released by his aide revealed that the intervention is aimed at supporting vulnerables and easing economic pressures as Muslims prepare for the holy month of Ramadan.

The annual initiative, which has become a consistent feature of the Minister’s outreach to his constituents, underscores his unwavering commitment to social welfare, inclusive governance, and grassroots empowerment.

The support package comprised substantial cash donations and essential food items including rice, millet, sugar, guinea corn, maize, and wrappers. The total value of the intervention exceeded ₦200 million, ensuring that beneficiaries observe Ramadan with dignity, comfort, and renewed hope.

As part of the exercise, the Honourable Minister disbursed ₦33 million to Local Government and Ward Executives.
Members of the Local Government Executive received ₦100,000 each, while some executive members received ₦50,000 each.

The total amount received by the Local Government EXCO was ₦1.45 million.
Ward Chairmen across the 11 wards received ₦200,000 each, while their Secretaries received ₦100,000 each.
Ward Executive members received ₦30,000 each.
The total disbursed to Ward Executives was approximately ₦12 million.Other beneficiaries included: Goronyo Social Media Group – ₦2 million. Goronyo Youth Association – ₦1.5 million
Youths in each of the 11 wards – ₦500,000 per ward (₦5 million total)

APC Youth Mobilization, Goronyo – ₦1.5 million. Eight elderly community leaders – ₦500,000 each (₦4 million total) Goronyo Students Association – ₦1 million. Former Councillors of Goronyo – ₦500,000. Decampees – ₦500,000
Women’s Association – ₦1.5 million

In addition to the cash support, three trailer loads of rice valued at approximately ₦90 million were distributed. Bags of sugar worth over ₦28 million were also provided, with large quantities of millet and wrappers.
Additional rice distribution included:
APC Social Media Group – 50 bags
Youth Association – 50 bags
Students Association – 50 bags
Women’s Association – 100 bags
Youths from each of the 11 wards – 10 bags each (110 bags total).

In total, approximately 558 bags of rice were distributed to associations and agencies. Security agencies received about 178 bags of rice, including the Police, Military, Civil Defence, the DSS, Community Guards, Vigilantes, and other security outfits.

Institutions such as NOWA, the Ministry of Justice (Magistrate & Courts), and INEC also benefited from the Ramadan intervention.
In his address, the Minister expressed profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his bold economic reforms, infrastructural drive across the country.

He noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President has strengthened governance and laid the foundation for sustainable national development.

The Minister also commended the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, for his visionary leadership and people-oriented policies that continue to complement federal initiatives in the state.

He further paid glowing tribute to Senator Dr. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for his mentorship, political guidance, and steadfast commitment to the unity and progress of Sokoto State.
According to the Minister, the synergy between the Federal Government under President Tinubu, the Sokoto State Government under Governor Ahmed Aliyu, and the strategic leadership of Senator Wamakko has created a strong platform for accelerated development and grassroots empowerment.

Speaking on behalf of the people of Goronyo Local Government Area, the Permanent Secretary, Alh. Hussaini Umar Gorau (SSA/PA to the Governor of Sokoto State), expressed profound gratitude and urged sustained unity and support for the APC-led administration.

Hon. Faruku Ahmad Rimawa commended the Minister for his generosity and consistent commitment to community development.

The Minister reaffirmed his loyalty to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged continued support for policies that uplift citizens and strengthen democratic institutions.
