Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating insecurity across the country, assuring citizens that efforts to enhance safety and well-being are being intensified.

Speaking in Lagos on Sunday during an Eid el-Fitr gathering with Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 governors, the President emphasized that insecurity would not be permitted to undermine initiatives aimed at assisting vulnerable populations.

As contained in statement released, he disclosed that discussions held during his recent visit to the United Kingdom included securing equipment and support for modern security interventions.

Tinubu further revealed a follow-up conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on the same matter, indicating international collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s security concerns.

“The next phase of our struggle is staring us in the face, and that is the challenge of insecurity in the country,” President Tinubu stated, highlighting the critical nature of the issue.

He underscored that “Insecurity is an enemy of development, progress, and prosperity,” and expressed satisfaction that the governors shared this understanding.
Beyond security, Tinubu also addressed the economic implications of global events, particularly the Middle East crisis, which he anticipates will lead to increased inflation and impact purchasing power.

He urged state governors to implement policies and programs that directly benefit citizens and to provide incentives to mitigate the inflationary pressures on energy and transportation costs.

The President and First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, had returned on Friday from a three-day State Visit to United Kingdom, where they were hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camila. During his visit, President Tinubu also met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
In response, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman Abdul- Razaq, commended President Tinubu’s interventions and the visionary Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also noted ongoing discussions regarding state police, with contributions from the NGF, aiming for a legislative framework to address the issue.

The meeting saw the attendance of governors from various states, including Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, Lagos, Nasarawa, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, Yobe, and Ondo, along with the Deputy Governor of Borno State.
