The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has demonstrated operational vigilance and technological competence with successful recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle through its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) platform in Ekiti State.

The breakthrough, recorded on 23rd March, 2026 during routine manual uploads at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti, proves the Corps’ commitment to strengthening vehicle documentation integrity and combating automobile related crimes across the country.

The discovery was triggered when details submitted by a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area raised red flags, as the chassis number failed to conform with the standard manufacturer’s sequence for a Toyota Camry 2006 model.

Acting on professional intuition and technical expertise, the NVIS Desk Officer corrected the anomaly and ran the revised chassis through the NVIS database, which revealed a valid match linked to a vehicle reported stolen two years earlier.
Prompt contact with the original owner confirmed the theft, setting in motion a coordinated recovery process.

Following the briefing of the State Licensing Officer and the Sector Commander, strategic steps were taken to lure the suspect for verification, but upon failure to comply, the Corps escalated the matter to the Nigeria Police.

While Acting on credible intelligence, a team of police officers from Irewolede Police Station, Ilorin, successfully recovered the vehicle on 31st March, 2026 at about 1030HRS in Emure Ekiti.
This remarkable feat further highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and the critical role of the NVIS database in safeguarding vehicle ownership records nationwide.

To this very end, the Corps reiterates its resolve to clamp down on all forms of vehicle related fraud and urges members of the public to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicle details to avoid legal consequences.

The Corps remains steadfast in its mandate to promote road safety, enhance national security, and protect lawful citizens through intelligence driven operations and strategic enforcement mechanisms.
