A somber atmosphere enveloped Koroma, Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, as the Nigeria’s political heavyweights gathered to pay their final respects to the late Senator Barinada Barry Mpigi.
The former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works was laid to rest amidst an outpouring of griefs and tributes from colleagues and admirers.
The burial, held at the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Koroma Deanery Beth-El Church, saw a convergence of prominent figures, including the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi.
He was joined by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike; and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, among other distinguished guests.
Senator Mpigi, remembered as a dedicated public servant and accomplished lawmaker, received heartfelt eulogies highlighting his contributions to the nation.
According to a statement, the solemn service was marked by a powerful sermon delivered by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ogoni, Ven. T.S.D. Kagbara. 
He reminded the grieving congregation of the ephemeral nature of earthly life, emphasizing the promise of an everlasting home beyond.
“This place we are is not our everlasting home. In heaven, there is no more hunger, no more death, no more darkness… Jesus will be the light. We have to give our lives to Jesus.
“All things will pass away but those who do the will of God will live everlasting life,” Bishop Kagbara preached, offering solace and spiritual reflection to the multitude of mourners who had come to honor Senator Mpigi’s life and legacy.
