A new chapter unfolded on Tuesday, June 15, at the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) as 111 freshly inducted employees embarked on their journey to shape the nation’s mineral sector.

The rigorous one-day induction program, held at the Immaculate Platinum Luxury Resorts in Abuja, marked a significant stride in MCO’s commitment to an independent, efficient, and transparent mining cadastre system.

The intensive program was meticulously designed to seamlessly integrate new talent into MCO’s dynamic work culture.

Inductees delved into specialized training modules covering the intricacies of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Public Service Rules, and Financial Regulations.

Engr. Simon Obadiah, the Director- General of MCO, underscored profound importance of the induction.

“A one-day induction programme and administration of oath of secrecy is to enlighten the inductees in public service rules and all aspects of governance,” he stated.

He emphasized that the provided booklets serve as a crucial guide, asserting that without proper induction, the civil service and public service cannot thrive, and governance would become exceedingly difficult.

Highlighting the esteemed tradition of the Civil Service, Engr. Obadiah remarked, “Civil Service from inception is the most disciplined and cultured, and to make sure that the right things are done, the rules are there to guide everyone to make the service much better, the governance is about the people.”

His advice to the inductees resonated deeply: “You have to adhere strictly to the rules, and most especially make a name for yourself. What do you want your bosses and colleagues to know you for?

“If they call your name today, what will they say about you? You start to make
a name from the day you are employed in the civil service; building your name is very important.”

Mrs. Ijeoma Idika, Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development, reinforced the significance of induction as a vital tool for new recruits to understand their environment, the operational mandates of their office, and to connect with management.

Yakubu Muri, Director Monitoring and Coordination at MCO, offered words of
encouragement, assuring the inductees of the Director General’s unwavering support.

“We have a very good leader, i.e., Director General, and he is ready to give all the necessary supports you need. The door is open; please put in your best, come with an open heart, whatever you do will be recognized”.

Okechukwu Nwagbara, Director Administration in MCO, proudly noted the current Director General’s remarkable achievement of employing 100 staff, a record he believes will be hard to surpass.

He urged the new employees to embrace the civil service’s guiding regulations, reminding them that MCO rewards diligence and addresses deviations from its rules.

Olamijulo Oluwapelumi, one of the inductees, expressed his admiration for the Director General’s leadership.

“The composure and the fatherly love of the Director General is to be admired, the way he addressed us like a father. His words that struck me most was that he said ‘Make a name for yourself in service.'”

Inspired by the day’s teachings, Oluwapelumi pledged loyalty, discipline, and diligence, expressing his privilege
to serve the organization.

The event concluded with all MCO management staff offering their valuable advice, reinforced collective commitment to excellence and public service.
