The Civil Society Coalition Against Corruption in Nigeria (CSCCN) has called for the immediate investigation, arrest and prosecution of two individuals, identified as Tunde Ogunsakin and Angela Oviawe, over allegations of identity theft, forgery and impersonation as legal practitioners.

The coalition made the call on Monday, October 12, 2026, at a World Press Conference in Abuja.

Addressing journalists, CSCCN’s Chief Convener, Comrade Omoba Michael, said the briefing was held to draw attention to questions surrounding the professional status of the two individuals, who allegedly operate a law firm known as TUNDE OGUNSAKIN & CO at No. 101, Ebitu Ukiwe Street, Jabi District, Abuja.

According to the coalition, the action followed Freedom of Information requests submitted by its member organisation, Overt Legacy and Human Development Initiative, to the Chief
Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on April 24 and May 6, 2026.

The requests sought verification of the professional status of the individuals.

CSCCN claimed that, in a response dated May 21, 2026, the Supreme Court stated that the names Ayotunde Johnson Ogunsakin, Tunde Ogunsakin and Angela Oviawe were not found on the Roll of Legal Practitioners.

“The integrity of the legal profession is in danger and Nigerians cannot afford to keep calm,” Michael said.

The coalition also alleged that the law firm operates branch offices in London, United Kingdom, and Virginia, United States.

It further cited a 2010 online publication that alleged Ogunsakin had been investigated over examination malpractice while studying at the
University of Abuja.

CSCCN said it was in possession of petitions submitted on October 9, 2026, to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Nigeria Police Force, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the British High Commission, the United States Embassy, the Council of Legal Education, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).

Citing the Legal Practitioners Act, the group noted that Section 2(1) provides that only persons whose names appear on the Roll maintained by the Supreme Court are entitled to practise as barristers and solicitors.

It added that Section 22(1) criminalises presenting oneself as a legal practitioner without the required qualification.

The coalition made five demands, including investigations by the ICPC and police; regulatory action by the NBA and LPDC; referral of the alleged foreign offices to the Solicitors Regulation Authority in the UK and relevant authorities in Virginia; and nullification of legal documents allegedly prepared without authority.

It also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the Attorney-General of the Federation, to ensure inter-agency coordination on the matter.

The group gave the agencies 48 hours to demonstrate that meaningful action had begun, warning that it would lead a peaceful protest to the ICPC and police headquarters in Abuja if they failed to act.

As of press time, the individuals named in the allegations had not publicly responded. The claims remain unproven and have yet to be confirmed by the relevant statutory and professional regulatory bodies.
