The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has expressed grief over level of destruction to people’s property at Petrol tanker explosion in Matogun area of Ifo Local Government on Saturday.
Abiodun, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, after the unfortunate incident, described the incident, in which no fewer than 10 houses and shops were destroyed by the fire from the explosion, as unfortunate.
The Governor who expressed his heart-felt sympathy to the victims, thanked God that no life was lost in the explosion.
He explained that such unforeseen incident was one of the reasons his administration decided to embark on the reconstruction of Ijoko-Alagbole- Lambe-Akute Road, despite the huge amount of public fund sunk into the road without completion by the immediate past govt.
While suing for calm among the residents of the Matogun and its environs, Abiodun assured that work would be expedited on the road to forestall such an incident and to make life of the people in the axis comfortable.
Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to making the people of Ogun State enjoy the real dividends of democracy.
Also stated that palliative assistance would be rendered to those who lost their property to the inferno, with the view of mitigating their losses.
Report has it that a fuel tanker loaded with 45,000 litres of PMS otherwise called Petrol on Saturday fell and exploded at Olambe along Matogun road in Ifo Local Govt Area of Ogun State.
No lives were lost in the incident, according to Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the territorial head of the National Emergency Management Agency in Lagos, who also confirmed the incident.
According to him, “A tanker laden with about 45,000 litres of PMS (petrol) crashed, spilled its content and exploded at about 0700 hours this morning at Olambe matogun road ifo LGA Ogun State.
“Though, no live was lost or anyone sustain injury but about 10 buildings were consumed in the incident.
“The situation was mitigated with most of the content spilling into the canal close to the scene thereby saved community from serious incident that could have affected people. The fire has been put out.”
