The South African Government has reacted and noted the the terror alert issued by the United States Embassy on its website.

In a statement released by the Presidency after the security threat on Wednesday, adding that this is part of the US government’s standard communication to its citizens.

On US Embassy website, it was stated that the U.S. Government received information that terrorists may be planning to conduct attack targeting large gatherings of people at an unspecified location in greater Sandton area of Johannesburg, South Africa, on 29 October 2022.

US noted that there is no further information regarding the timing, method, or target of the potential attack, but advised staff to avoid crowds of people and other large public gatherings in that area during the weekend.

Responding to this, the Presidency said it is the responsibility of South African security forces to ensure that all people within the country feel safe, adding that law enforcement agencies will continue to monitor for any threats to the citizens, the nation and the sovereignty.

“Threats are assessed continuously and are acted upon to ensure the safety of all. Should the need arise; the South African government will be the first to inform the public about any imminent threat”, Presidency noted further.
