The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau has condemned stabbing attack that occurred at University of Waterloo in Ottawa on Wednesday which was discribed hate-motivated, adding that the act is absolutely despicable.

Trudeau on his social media platform Thursday reacted to the incident said the act is another reminder that Canadians must never let misogynistic, anti-2SLGBTQI+ rhetoric escalate, because these words have real-life consequences.

It was reported that on Wednesday, at about 3:40 p.m., about 40 students were in a classroom when suspect came in and stabbed three people: a 38-year-old female professor; a 20-year-old female student and a 19-year-old male student.

Reacting to this, the Canada’s Prime Minister said, “The fact that the stabbings at the University of Waterloo were hate-motivated is absolutely despicable.

“I strongly condemn this vile act. It is another reminder that we can never let misogynistic, anti-2SLGBTQI+ rhetoric escalate, because these words have real-life consequences”, the Prime Minister said.

“In this case, that hate escalated into violence forever changing the lives of the professor and two students who were attacked, as well as the lives of all the students who attended their gender studies class. Our thoughts continue to be with everyone affected.

“I want to make this clear: This heinous violence, and the hate that fueled it, have no place in our country. We must and we will keep working to build a Canada where everyone is welcome to be who they are, to study what they want, and to be safe from violence”, he said.

Meanwhile, a recent graduate of the University of Waterloo in Ontario was charged with assault on Thursday, accused of stabbing a professor and two students in gender studies class in what the police described as a “hate-motivated incident.”

Geovanny Villalba-Aleman, 24, an international student who graduated in 2022, charged with aggravated assault, assault with possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and mischief, the Waterloo Regional Police said in a statement.

“The accused targeted a gender-studies class and investigators believe this was a hate-motivated incident related to gender expression and gender identity,” the statement said.
