The newly inaugurated President of Anglican Grammmar School Okenla Ifo Old Student Association (AGSOSA) on Saturday, has said leading an Association like this requires flexible leadership qualities that believe in the abilities of others and imbibe genuine humility and mutual respect.
Fashina who disclosed this during the Inauguration ceremony vowed that his administration will leverage on the ideas of others as fellow stakeholders without losing his grip on the wheels.
He said, “Kindly follow me as I unveil my working document towards building a strong and virile Association that is ready to contribute meaningfully to the growth of our alma mater”. The President recalled that during the electioneering, he released a five-point agenda which will form the fulcrum of all the administration’s activities in the next two years.
On member confidence, Fashina promised that his administration will work to restore the confidence of the members in the Association through mutual respect for one another and not depriving any voice from being heard.
“All hands must be on deck to ensure that we regain members confidence and loyalty. Observation through attendance at meetings in the past showed that this has to be addressed as a matter of urgency.Speaking of strategical plan to address this issue, the President said there will be robust engagement among executive members and members of Set Representative Assembly (SRA).
He added that there will be constant meeting with the SRA as enshrined in the constitution. “Periodic meeting with registered sets, online or physical, to brief them on administrative, financial dealings of the Association.
“Quarterly presentation of non-sensitive report of the Association on the official platform. Raise members participation at the AGM via introduction of set delegates for all registered sets and then observer members. Transparency in conducting the affairs of the Association”.
The President, at the sidelines of the ceremonial event told our correspondent that he believe if the association has a purposeful leadership that member has trust in, those who are inactive will be active.
“Somebody may just decide to be inactive because things are not going the way he thinks it should go. But by the time he sees a new fresh, a new lease, he will now say, okay, I can go along with this one.
“So we are bringing a fresh idea. We are bringing a new innovation that everybody is valuable, everybody is important which is what we are looking at.
“We are changing the narrative now to involve everybody and to make everybody feel important in the association. And that’s how it should be. Everybody is important.“We are sticking to that. So there is no member that is higher than the other. So I think by the time we sell that idea to our members, they will become active”, the President stated.
To hit the ground running immediately, Fashina inaugurated six committees with specific terms of references as vehicles by which his administration will deliver its mandate.
He said each committee will have seven members of which at least two must be women. “Chairman or Chairperson (sound member with requisite experience and influence)
“Alternate Chairman or Chairperson (a relevant member of the executives) One member of the executives. Four other members, the President explained. While concluding, Fashina assured that it is the dawn of a new era where members shall witness positive development in the Association and the school by God’s grace.
According to him, “Between two weeks ago, when I had the first meeting with the elected officials and now at the event of the inauguration, my hope for revitalized Association has been rekindled with the enthusiasm of every member I have interacted with”.
“It is my believe that together, if we have the right leadership, we will have the Association of our dream. I want to assure you that I have decided to provide the good leadership and there is no turning back”. The President therefore solicited for members’ continued support at all times. “I have always had the opinion that this Association is a voluntary one without any subvention from anywhere.
He added, “The Association can only thrive on the goodwill and financial contributions of members. This goes to indicate that every member is important and collectively, members should be valued.
“Without your cooperation and support, we won’t go far. Let us go back to our various sets and strengthen the bond taking clue from our slogan that says ‘united we stand’.
“There is no doubt that we might have offended one another, let us put that behind and chart a new course for the Association. Let us reach out to our mates that are yet to join us and be a succor to those that are indigent among us”, the President appealed.
