AHYEL Tech & Innovation Hub hosts Microsoft Global Hackathon in Bauchi

The AHYEL Tech & Innovation Hub has successfully hosted a Microsoft Global Hackathon 2025 site in Jama’are Emirate, Bauchi State, making history as global innovation event reached the rural community for the first time.

The Microsoft Global Hackathon which started from 15th to 19th September, 2025, proved to be the largest private hackathon on the planet, bringing together tens of thousands of innovators across the world to build solutions that address critical challenges.

This year, AHYEL Tech & Innovation Hub collaborated with Nurture Roots Foundation, Ahmed Yelwa Foundation, and EKDA, enabling Jama’are’s youth and tech enthusiasts to connect in real time with global Microsoft teams and changemakers.
“This is more than a hackathon, it’s a movement,” said the Director of the Foundation, Engr Dr. Aliyu Ahmad. “We have proven that big ideas know no boundaries.

“Talent from rural communities can design solutions with both local relevance and global reach.”

Key Milestones from the Event
• 30 Tech Fellows Graduated: Young innovators who completed months of intensive training were celebrated and certified, ready to serve as technology ambassadors in their communities.
• 20 Out-of-School Children Sponsored: In partnership with local and international supporters, 20 children were sponsored and taken off the streets, beginning their journey back into formal education.

• Global Innovation at a Local Scale: Tech Fellows and volunteers prototyped solutions in education, sustainability, and digital skills.

• Worldwide Participation: Volunteers and Microsoft Change Agents travelled thousands of miles to mentor and innovate with local participants.

The hackathon demonstrated that rural communities can be at the forefront of technological change, delivering:
• Opportunities for rural youth to learn and showcase digital skills.
• Global collaborations that bring cutting-edge technology to underserved areas and Momentum for long-term projects, including AI-powered education tools and smart solar technology.
