Corps Members have been warned to respect the culture and tradition of their host communities at the end of their three weeks Orientation Course.

The Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed gave the warning today in his address to Corps Members at the NYSC Akwa-Ibom State Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

He urged them to avoid every action that may put them on collision with their hosts, adding that every Corps Member must imbibe tolerance, humility, diligence, respect and peaceful co-existence as good ambassadors of NYSC.

General Ahmed also emphasized the need to embark on personal or group Community Development Service projects that would improve the standard of living of residents in their host communities.

According to the statement released by the scheme, the DG advised the Corps Members to use the service year for self development. “I will like to advise you to take our entrepreneurship programme with all seriousness so that you will benefit immensely from it.

“We are in collaboration with credible institutions like Access Bank, Bank of Industry, Unity Bank, Wema Bank, NNPC Foundation and other organisations that are willing to make money available for you to start your businesses with no interest”, he said.

While giving her camp situation report to the Director General, the NYSC Akwa-Ibom State Coordinator, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe appreciated the State Government for its statutory support for the Scheme in the State.

She added that a total of 1,580 Corps Members comprising 809 male and 771female have been registered as at the time of the Director General’s visit.
