Avoid shortcuts in quest for success, NYSC DG to corps

The Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed has advised Corps members to avoid shortcuts in the quest to achieving their future ambitions.

The DG disclosed this while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream Two Corps Members at NYSC Plateau Temporary Orientation Camp in Doi-Du, Jos, and their counterpart in Bauchi State Orientation Camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the State.

Furthermore, he urged them to embrace the opportunities of NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme in camp to acquire vocational skills that would make them employers of labour and also financially independent.
The DG said success in life requires patience, diligence and perseverance while implored them not to undermine the post-camp training of the Entrepreneurship Development programme.

General Ahmed then admonished the Corps Members to use the opportunities of the service year to foster national unity and integration, study their host environments to make positive impact and serve their fatherland meritoriously.

In his camp situation report to the Director General, the NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, Mr Jonathan Yavala said 1,957 Corps Members comprising 982 males and 975 females were registered and have adapted to camp life.

Similarly, the Bauchi State Coordinator, Mrs Rifkatu Daniel said a total of 1,641 Corps Members comprising of 761 males and 880 females were registered.
Both Coordinators informed the Director General that all the Corps participants have demonstrated high sense of patriotism, diligence and zealousness towards the realization of the objectives of the Orientation Course.

Leave lasting legacies to host communities, DG urges Corps members

Earlier, the DG has encouraged Corps to strive towards leaving lasting legacies of different projects that would improve the standards of living of residents in their respective host communities.

General Ahmed disclosed this while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream Two Corps Members at Kebbi State Orientation Camp in Dakingari, Suru Local Government Area of the State recently.

He said the Community Development Service, being one of the four cardinal programmes of the Scheme, designed to enable Corps Members execute personal or group projects that would add value to their host communities during their service year.
General Ahmed further stated that the Scheme would not tolerate indecent dressing from any Corps Member. He then stressed that the approved NYSC dress code must be strictly adhered to.

He warned the Corps Members against boarding vehicles from unauthorized motorparks and urged them to patronize only approved motorparks. Also to obtain permission from the NYSC before embarking on any journey.

The NYSC Kebbi State Coordinator, Alhaji Bala Dabo Kagarko while presenting his camp report to the Director General disclosed that all Camp activities were going on smoothly while the Corps Members have shown high level of discipline, commitment and perseverance.

He also said a total of 1,300 Corps Members were registered comprising of 771 males and 529 females.
