Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has described the prestigious recognition bestowed on a Nigerian, Dr Pedus Eweama who won Community Citizen of the year award in Australia as not only well deserved but timely.

The NIDCOM Boss who made this known in her congratulatory letter, said to earn such recognition in a foreign land shows that Dr Eweama is a grassroot man, working for the progress of humanity.

According to the statement released by the Commission on Saturday, Dabiri-Erewa added that the pedigree of this Nigerian-Australian as the man of the people contributing to the development of the country is worthy of emulation by all.

She implored all Nigerians in the Diaspora to keep the flag flying and be good ambassadors of Nigeria through their character, conduct and attitude.

As part of the 2023 Australia Day celebrations across Australia, local governments recognize community heroes who have made significant contributions to the development of their local communities.

It was in keeping with the tradition that Dr. Pedus Eweama was announced as 2023 “The Community Citizen of The Year” at the City of Swan in Western Australia recently.

Eweama, who was among 12 outstanding nominees, is a Nigerian-Australian medical practitioner and community leader who has made meaningful contributions to the Australian community within the multi-cultural leadership space.

He is the current Chairperson of Nigerian Association of Western Australia (NAWA) and Chairperson of the Council of Nigerian Associations Presidents in Australia (CoNAPA), the peak leadership forum for all Nigerian national associations in Australia.

Eweama was previously the Chairperson of Igbo Association of Western Australia and a recognized leader within the African Australian community.

In 2022, he was out of 17 nominees and three finalists recognised as the “Outstanding Community Champion” during the West Australian African Community Award night of the Organization of African Communities in Western Australia (OACWA).
